Stay Safe on the Slopes: The Importance of Proper Ski Binding Adjustment
Winter is here, and with it comes the thrill of skiing and snowboarding. However, this season also brings its share of accidents, many of which are caused by improperly adjusted ski bindings. Ensuring your bindings are correctly set is a small but crucial step toward a safer and more enjoyable winter sports experience.
Why Binding Adjustment Matters
Your ski bindings play a critical role in your safety on the slopes. They are designed to release your boots during a fall to minimize the risk of serious injury. However, if the bindings are not calibrated properly, they may release too soon—or worse, not release at all when needed.
At Hefti Sports, we use an official testing machine that ensures your bindings are adjusted to the ISO 11088 standard. This machine checks the release system based on your:
- Weight
- Height
- Age
- Skill Level
It also verifies that the spring inside the bindings is functioning correctly and matches the indicated settings. If discrepancies are detected, we can recalibrate the bindings to ensure optimal performance.
Why Annual Checks Are Essential
Ski bindings can deteriorate over time due to:
- Humidity in storage areas, such as basements
- UV exposure
- Cold temperatures
- General wear and tear
Additionally, your body changes over the years. Variations in weight, height, or skiing ability can affect the ideal release settings for your bindings. That’s why it’s important to test and adjust your bindings annually, ensuring they release correctly when needed.
Our “Zero Worry” Package
At Hefti Sports, we offer a “Zero Worry” package for an additional CHF 15.-, that includes binding checks as part of your annual ski maintenance. When you service your skis with us, we’ll verify the bindings’ settings with our specialized machine and apply the BPA ski sticker.
The BPA ski sticker is a quality label that guarantees your bindings have been adjusted for the current season according to ISO 11088 standards. Rest assured, your equipment has been checked with precision and care.
Note: ISO 11088 was updated in 2023, ensuring even higher safety standards.
Ski Safe, Ski Smart
By regularly checking your bindings, you can significantly reduce the risk of injuries in case of a fall. Properly adjusted bindings are not just a technical detail—they are a key part of skiing safely and confidently.
